A Gift of Words
The Gift of Dreams
“I have a dream” Those famous four words from MLK. We are all dreamers. Very few of us fulfill our dreams.
In another context any living being with a mind and eyesight has the potential to dream while they are sleeping, even when sleeping standing up, like giraffes. Evidence of this is when you eye a dog or a lion sleeping and watch them toss or turn.
Dreaming is a way for our brain, through sleep, to parse the knowledge of the day into relevant sections and store the memories in safe, consolidating, retrievable neighborhoods in our brain.
I was offered a job at a mattress factory. I asked them if I could sleep on it.
Dreams can seriously screw with your head. Some people live by their dreams and will not make a decision unless they sleep on it first. A screw is loose then and needs to be tightened. Most people would then say. " Just screw it and be done with it!"
Your dreams, when you sleep, belong to you and you alone. They are your own private domains. You don’t need to go public with them and no one can take these sub conscious dreams away.
People can take your other hopes and dreams away however.
If we didn’t dream, it would be terrible for our health, so I think sleep and dreaming are inseparable. Some people dream a little and some people dream a lot.
When you dream in color, is it a pigment of your imagination?
If you eat sweets you will dream a lot and vividly. Eat spicy foods and you will have nightmares vividly.
I’m a dreamer. With all the conversations I have with myself, thoughts become jumbled at some point during the day and need to be sorted out while I sleep. Have you ever gone to bed with a problem you couldn’t solve and woken up with the solution?
I went to a gig last night and the band's guitarist passed out on stage. He must have rocked himself to sleep.
There are day dreamers out there who stare off into space, gazing at nothing in particular, oblivious to their surroundings. We all do it actually about 30 mins or more a day. Most of us are not aware of it when it happens. Some call it musings, which is a reflection of thought. We (a)muse ourselves in a pause when we least expect it, staring off, hopefully when no one is looking.
How does an attorney sleep? First, he lies on one side, then he lies on the other.
You can make a living off of dreams if you become a dream analyst. Books have been written, and millions can be made as an author of dream books, if you so desire.
Very few of us remember dreams 24 hours after the fact unless they are recurring dreams, or bad dreams. An out of body dream is when you are watching yourself from above do the crazy things in your dream but can still feel the emotion, pain, or love.
Dreams also point out our needs, and we should heed them. Why not start a dream diary and write out your dream as soon as you wake up? Dreams are usually experienced just before waking up.
I accidentally went to bed with my contact lenses last night. My dreams have never been clearer.
Do all you five senses work in a dream? The only sense I can’t remember in a dream, is common sense, because anything goes in a dream from wet dreams, to dreaming that you peed in the bed. Ooops I did pee in the bed once and I thought I dreamt it but to my dismay I awoke wetted.
Shamanic dreaming, means dreaming at a higher conscious level, more awake then asleep. Lucid dreaming is more the term for it, but few people experience this type of dream. You might have experienced it without knowing that you did. Do you ever get the sense that you just re-lived an experience?
Dream catchers are a unique invention. Did you know that the original dream catcher was a spider’s web? Dream catchers are used to protect you from bad dreams.
So don’t get rid of a spider’s web above your bed if you don’t have a dream catcher handy.
I had a dream and have fulfilled it!
