A Gift of Words

The Gift of Charity

Charity begins at home. The act of charity at home means that you take care of family before taking care of anyone else. It's natural right?

It starts with family, because with family strength, your bloodline will survive, or it should. Charity can then proceed outward towards others, once family has been taken care of.

Did you know that if everyone who goes to a theater once a year gives that money to charity we could end hunger in the world through programs which are designed to help people to learn how to fish. Not literally but teach them how to sustain themselves through innovative means.

Charity should not end at home but should extend outward willingly through various means, such as the giving of time. A donation of time is a precious commodity, given generously by so few rich people; it stands out as the most needed form of charity.

Volunteering cannot be overstated as a universal solution to many woes of society. You see, the gift of time has added value as it comes packaged with the gift of experience, which is then used to teach a person how to fish so they can be self-sustainable, wiser, and healthier through positive influences from people who are in the position to give back. Did you know that poor people donate more to charities than rich people?

Yes, the charity of time, translates into helping people get through tough situations. Rich people are too busy acquiring riches and managing the riches using their time that they have no time left for charities, and no money left for giving, since they have invested their money for themselves to make more money for themselves.

How can you give to charity if you are uncharitable to yourself? This means that you lack love, generosity, are mean spirited, stingy to name a few. If you have even one of these traits then you might be lacking as a charitable person and it’s all about you. Most likely, when you get older you will be alone.

It is said the people who live the longest and healthiest are the ones who have strong family ties and friendships built on years of charitableness towards their fellow man.

Quick: Why don’t oysters give to charity? Because they’re shellfish.

Types of Charities: Money, In-Kind Donations (Goods that are overstock in a business), Sponsorship's, Estate Gifts, Services, Time.

Giving blood, or donating bone marrow, are charitable money-less donations. What about after you die, will you be charitable and be an organ donor?

The greatest impact you can have is donating through mentoring, which would be related to the charity of time. Why not be a big brother, sister, or befriend an older person? Be the difference for the one who is sad, for the one who has led an incredible life but is lonely, or for one who can relate amazing experiences to a willing listener if only someone would listen, we can be the difference-makers.

Giving someone a smile is a small but impactful charitable donation of happiness through osmosis. He or she who hesitates to give to charity is a skinflint. A Mr. or Mrs. Scrooge.

Everyone has something to give to charity.

Food banks, homeless people, donating unwanted items to charitable stores who turn the goods into sales for the needy where the money goes to food

banks are charitable.
